Extensive Ivy Growth Across the Rear of the Property
Trusted Cleanerz Ltd was asked to remove heavy, established ivy from the rear of a residential property in Sheffield. The growth had spread across a large section of the house wall, around the conservatory and towards the roofline.
This was not a request to eradicate the entire plant. The customer wanted the extensive upper growth removed from the building while retaining the lower ivy so they could maintain it themselves afterwards.
What the Customer Asked Us to Do
The customer wanted the heavy ivy removed from the house wall, roofline and conservatory area. However, they did not want all of the ivy removed from the bottom of the property.
We therefore agreed to clear the extensive growth from the building while leaving the lower section in place. This allowed the customer to retain some of the established plant and manage its future growth through regular maintenance.
Every ivy removal job is different. Some customers want the plant cut at its base and treated, while others want selected growth retained. Our work is planned around the agreed outcome for the individual property.
How Our Team Completed the Work
The ivy was removed manually in controlled sections by a three-person Trusted Cleanerz team. Working in smaller sections allowed us to manage the weight and direction of the vegetation as it was detached from the property.
Assessment and access
The team assessed the extent of the growth and arranged safe access around the rear wall, conservatory and upper areas.
Controlled manual removal
The heavy growth was separated and removed gradually rather than being pulled down from the building in one uncontrolled section.
Work around the roofline
Ivy was removed carefully from the upper wall and roofline areas, where uncontrolled vegetation can obstruct access and make maintenance difficult.
Waste collection
The removed vegetation was gathered throughout the day and all agreed ivy and green waste were taken away from the property.
Why We Remove Established Ivy Manually
Established ivy can be heavy, tightly attached and spread across several parts of a property at the same time. On this project, it affected the wall, roofline and conservatory area.
Manual removal gave our team greater control around these surfaces. It also allowed the vegetation to be reduced in manageable sections as the work progressed.
Our ladder-based teams can also inspect accessible areas as the ivy is uncovered. This can reveal blocked guttering, loose fittings, damaged surfaces or other maintenance issues that were previously hidden by the vegetation.
Work completed
- Rear house wall cleared
- Upper growth removed
- Roofline area exposed
- Conservatory area cleared
- Lower ivy retained
- Waste taken away
Completed in One Working Day
Despite the amount of established vegetation, the agreed work was completed within one working day by our three-person team.
By the end of the project, the heavy growth had been removed from the main walls, roofline and conservatory area. The lower ivy requested by the customer remained in place, ready for ongoing maintenance.
The large volume of removed ivy and green waste was collected and taken away, leaving the working areas clear and tidy.
Marks and fine tendrils may remain after removal
Mature ivy attaches itself to exterior surfaces using many small aerial rootlets. After the main vegetation has been removed, fine tendrils, staining or attachment marks may remain visible on brickwork, render or painted surfaces.
Standard ivy removal exposes the underlying wall but does not include brick restoration, repainting or the removal of every fine attachment mark unless additional work is specifically agreed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about professional ivy removal from buildings in Sheffield and across the UK.
Can you remove ivy without killing the whole plant?
Yes. Where practical, we can remove selected growth from the building while leaving an agreed lower section in place. This Sheffield customer wanted to retain the lower ivy and maintain it after the heavy upper growth had been removed.
Do you remove ivy manually?
Yes. Our team removes established ivy manually in controlled sections. The method used depends on the height, access, condition of the vegetation and surfaces affected.
Is the ivy waste taken away?
Waste removal can be included in the quotation. For this Sheffield project, all agreed removed vegetation and green waste were collected and taken away from the property.
Will the wall look completely clean after ivy removal?
Not always. Fine tendrils, attachment marks and staining can remain after established ivy has been removed. Ivy removal does not automatically include restoration, repainting or removal of every fine rootlet.
How long does a large ivy removal job take?
The timescale depends on the height, access, density of growth and amount of waste involved. This substantial Sheffield project was completed in one day by a three-person team. Larger or more complicated projects may require additional time.
How can I get an ivy removal quotation?
Send us clear photographs showing the complete area of ivy together with the property postcode. In many cases, we can provide an initial quotation from photographs. A site visit may be needed where access, height or the extent of growth is unclear.
